CTI Logistics formerly Jayde Transport has recently been contracted to carefully transport a World War II gun shield that was originally from the HMAS Adelaide the 1st. The shield is one of two that was discovered dumped at the Moorooduc reserve at Mt Eliza shortly after the HMAS Adelaide was refitted back in 1943, and this is where it has sat for just over 70 years.

The Royal Australian Artillery Historical Society of WA currently holds a MKXI gun barrel that was from the HMAS Sydney the 1st and has been searching for a matching shield for more than 20 years.

It was by sheer chance that a good friend to the society was riding his pushbike through a nature reserve and sure enough, sitting there rusting, was exactly what the RAAHS had been looking for. The chances of someone riding a bicycle through the reserve who knew what they were looking for in reality was so slim that the Royal Australian Artillery Historical Society of WA really needed to purchase a lottery ticket!

The society immediately wrote a letter to the Mornington Peninsula Shire, who then wrote to the Navy, who said they had no further claim on the shields.

The Australian Army and private defence contractors, realising the importance of this discovery, offered their own time and donated their services to restoring the gun shield back to its former WWII glory. It has now undergone the long journey across Australia and will be mounted on top of the MKXI gun barrels, forming a complete unit for the first time in 70 years.

It has then been placed in Buckman Hill, Mosman Park, which is overlooking the Rous Head area of Fremantle. It has been a pleasure for us here at CTI to be part of this journey, and we cannot wait to see the final result once it has been mounted on top of the guns.
